Most Tai Chi practitioners are familiar with Yang Style Tai Chi through it's most popular form, the 24 Form. The 24 Form was created in 1956 to simplify and standardize Yang Style Tai Chi movements, mainly for competition. Prior to 1956, Yang Style Tai Chi was taught through different traditional lineages. Our lineage is derived and modified from Fu Zhongwen, one of Yang Chengfu's main disciples. Grandmaster Aiping Cheng was Fu Zhongwen's student for traditional Yang Style Tai Chi.
This workshop will cover the nuances of traditional Yang Style Tai Chi and the differences to how the movements are done in 24 Form. We will use the Yang Long Form as the basis of instruction, but this workshop will not be about the sequences of the Long Form. We will also explore how the same movements are done differently in the Long Form and 24 Form and deep dive into the reason for the differences.
