Overview:

This two-part workshop series is designed to address common issues related to body alignment, structure, and movement mechanics in Tai Chi practice. Participants can choose to attend either session individually or both for a comprehensive understanding and practice. Each session is structured to work independently, ensuring valuable learning regardless of attendance in the other session. Both sessions will also incorporate strength and conditioning exercises to support improved alignment and mobility. Both sessions will be recorded and workshop ticket will enable access to watch the video recording.

The workshops are in-person and online. Shifu Shirley Chock will be leading the movements for the in-person attendees. Shifu Shirley's Tai Chi fitness trainer, Damian Neve, who is a martial arts and functional movement expert, will be joining in online to teach and direct the workshop for the in-person and online attendees.

Part 1: June 9

Focus: Alignment and Movement Mechanics

  1. Introduction to Body Alignment and Structure in Tai Chi:

    • Understanding the importance of correct alignment in Tai Chi practice.
    • Common alignment issues and their impact on health and performance.
    • Principles of Tai Chi alignment and structure.
  2. Movement Mechanics:

    • Identifying common faulty movement patterns.
    • Techniques for correcting these patterns to reduce pain and enhance efficiency.
    • Practical exercises and drills for improving movement mechanics.
  3. Strength and Conditioning for Alignment:

    • Introduction to the role of strength and conditioning in supporting Tai Chi practice.
    • Specific exercises to enhance strength and stability focused on alignment.
    • Integration of these exercises into daily practice.
  4. Interactive Practice Session:

    • Guided Tai Chi movements with a focus on applying alignment and movement principles.
    • Real-time feedback and adjustments to ensure proper technique.
    • Individualized attention for in-person attendees.

Part 2: June 23

Focus: Structure and Mobility Enhancement

    • Addressing any lingering questions or issues from Part 1 (for those who attended).
  2. Advanced Structure Techniques:

    • Deep dive into refining Tai Chi structure.
    • Techniques for maintaining structure during complex movements.
    • Practical drills to reinforce strong structure and stability.
  3. Strength and Conditioning for Mobility:

    • Advanced strength and conditioning exercises tailored to Tai Chi practitioners.
    • Focus on improving overall mobility and flexibility.
    • Techniques for integrating these exercises into a regular Tai Chi routine.
  4. Interactive Practice Session:

    • Advanced guided Tai Chi movements focusing on refined techniques.
    • Real-time feedback and adjustments for advanced movements.

About Damian Neve

Damian Neve is a life long martial artist. He is the direct lineage holder to the original Tang Soo Do fighting art as was used by the Korean Special Forces in the Vietnam War. Damian began his Tai Chi studies almost 30 years ago under William CC Chen's lineage and advanced his training with many different masters in New York's Chinatown. Damian is also a certified personal trainer and functional movement expert and was one of the top master trainers in Equinox Gym's flagship New York gym. Damian's expertise in martial arts, internal arts, street combat, and functional mobility gives him a rare multi-dimensional understanding of body mechanics that is much needed in Tai Chi.
